Today (1 October) 25 charities and community groups from across Wales joined the National Lottery’s 25th birthday celebration in the Senedd to share their stories – captured on camera about their incredible impact in supporting communities to thrive.
Lord Elis Thomas, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism unveiled the photographic exhibition which captures the story of 25 years of funding communities thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund.
Wales Director at the Fund says “For 25 years The National Lottery has been helping communities to thrive and the National Lottery Community Fund – the largest community funder in Wales – is proud of the role we’ve played in supporting people and communities to thrive.
“Today’s event is a celebration of 25 years of giving National Lottery grants to communities the length and breadth of Wales. The 25 projects who came along are representative of thousands of other projects. They represent the diversity and creativity of people and communities throughout Wales.”
Lord Elis-Thomas, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism told the participants and AMs:
“It was a pleasure to welcome representatives from 25 projects from 25 different constituencies to demonstrate the incredible impact of the National Lottery investment on communities across Wales. Over the past 25 years, the National Lottery has had a very positive impact on the lives of the people of Wales. Therefore, it is very appropriate that this year we celebrate the incredible contribution that the National Lottery has made, and thank the players of the National Lottery who contribute thousands of pounds each week towards excellent projects across Wales.”
The photographs displayed captured the breadth of impact that funding from the National Lottery Community Fund has had in Wales through environmental projects, community hubs, health and wellbeing initiatives and combating rural isolation.
We counted down the years with photographs of 25 tremendous community organisations which you can read on our blog.
Over 100 guests including AMs, grant-holders and wider third and public sector stakeholders joined the event which was sponsored by Hefin Davies Caerphilly AM.
