As the Urdd Eisteddfod kicks off in Llandovery we look at projects funded by the National Lottery in the area.

Grants from the National Lottery Community Fund have been of great benefit to the local area.

In 2019 Llandovery Youth and Community Centre received a grant of £525,914 over a period of five years to expand on their existing services, by developing a health and wellbeing hub. It provided the basis as a walk-in centre for support and help, providing access to health and wellbeing information and activities, life skills courses including self-management, holistic therapies, counselling and talking therapies, and access to other health and social care providers. Recently, they have received a further £1,900 to provide creating writing sessions for members of their community to help reduce feelings of social isolation.

The project will engage the community using VR sets and set up a Video Game Club. It helps bring the community together following the pandemic as well as improving digital provision in the community.

West Wales Motorcycle Project received £91,160 in 2019 to promote positive mental health. The project improved mental health and wellbeing through the delivery of activities around motorcycling concentrating on maintenance, renovation and repair of motorbikes.
